The newly appointed Mayor of Milton Keynes, Councillor Debbie Brock today launches the first of many exciting fundraising initiatives in support of her chosen charities, Willen Hospice and Bletchley Park.
Residents in and around Milton Keynes have the chance to own an extremely rare and highly valuable, Enigma Egg by Sarah Fabergé. Specially-commissioned by the internationally renowned Fabergé family to commemorate the story of code breaking in World War II at Bletchley Park, The Enigma Egg is the last of a ‘priceless’ collection of 50 master pieces, individually valued in excess of £3,500.
Inside the ‘egg’ is an exquisite miniature model of an Enigma machine, containing copper salvaged from an original machine. The model has a moveable lid and front and is made to scale in the most minute detail. The Enigma Egg portrays the story of wartime Bletchley and the splendour of the Victorian Mansion, with a design inspired by the elaborate staircase ceiling. The handcrafted golden goose depicts Sir Winston Churchill’s famous description of the achievements of the Bletchley Park code breakers and their veil of secrecy as ‘The Geese that laid the golden eggs but never cackled’.
From today, raffle tickets will go on sale at City Centre and key Milton Keynes outlets, including Midsummer Place Information Kiosk; Pink Punters; Harpurs in Woburn Sands and the Stony Wine Emporium; Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands Golf Club; ISIS in Kiln Farm and the Appledore Clinic, GJ Douglas of High Street Newport Pagnell, Kinki Hair Boutique of Tickford Arcade Newport Pagnell, Love Lana Market Place of Olney, Hilary Brock Limited of Olney as well as being directly available from Willen Hospice and Bletchley Park. Each ticket costs £5 and all proceeds will be split equally between each charity.
The Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Debbie Brock said: “It is a real privilege to be able to offer such a beautiful item as a once-in-a-lifetime prize, therefore, I would like to thank Bletchley Park for their kind generosity. I wish everyone entering all the very best of luck.”
The winning ticket will be unveiled at the Mayor’s Winter Ball at the MK Dons Stadium on 3rd December 2010.
The Fabergé egg will be on display at the ‘Forties Family Festival’ at Bletchley Park on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st May.
